Smart Women Jenny Schneider - City Church San Diego

Hello, my name is Jenny and I am a leader in our women’s ministry, Fame! We are learning from the women of the Old Testament this summer. The woman I’m sharing with you is Abigail.

Abigail was a rich and beautiful woman. Her husband, Nabal, had been shown great kindness by David and his men. But when the time came for Nabal to return the favor he foolishly mistreated David. So David decided he would get revenge. Abigail quickly intervened by approaching David and she solved the situation with wisdom and humility. Her wise decision spared her and her family from David’s plan of revenge.

In 1 Samuel 25:32 David says to Abigail: “Thank God for your good sense and for what you have done today in keeping me... from taking my own revenge”.

David praised Abigail’s wise decision. She had beauty and incredible wealth but it was her wisdom and humility in the midst of mistreatment that brought the blessing of God on her life.

How do you respond when you are mistreated?

I remember a time when my mom was wrongfully treated and she had to choose how she would respond. Rather than get angry or bitter, I watched her make a wise decision and humbly respond to those who had mistreated her and my family. She was convinced God would take care of us. And He did!

And in my own life a few years later, my husband and I were mistreated in the midst of a misunderstanding. We felt we had been very kind and generous and yet we were called dishonest and potential legal action if we didn’t take financial responsibility. It was hard not to get angry! We prayed and sought counsel from our pastors and professionals and chose to respond in humility and wisdom. Like my mom and Abigail, we trusted God would work out our situation if we stayed humble and showed good sense. And once again, He did. He worked on our behalf and instead of legal action we received a very large unexpected financial blessing!

Whatever you are facing today… conflict, mistreatment, feeling misunderstood… I hope Abigail’s story encourages YOU to respond with an attitude of wisdom and humility. We are women of good sense. Our wise and humble responses, even in the midst of unfair circumstances, will bring the blessing of God!

I’m so thankful for the women of FAME! I’m thankful to be a part of a group of such wise and humble women who really love God deeply. And I’m thankful for the impact you have made on my life with your friendship and prayers. I would love to hear from you - let me know how her story has impacted your life. Love you!
