Build Your Husband’s Confidence - Part 2

Confidence Is Built In The Presence of Jesus

Acts 4:13 When the Council saw the boldness  (confidence) of Peter and John and could see they were ordinary men, they were amazed and realized what being with Jesus had done for them! (Being with Jesus had given them confidence.)

The Bible tells us confidence comes from the time in God’s presence. Confidence is so important because it is one of the main keys to your happiness, fulfillment, and success.  We all fight to have healthy confidence but this is one of the biggest conflicts men face today. Men struggle with low self-worth, feeling disrespected, feeling devalued, and feeling insignificant. The devil is in a battle with your husband to destroy his confidence because Satan knows if your man gains confidence he will possess supernatural power to succeed. The devil’s plans are to keep your husband dishonored, discredited, and disgraced.

Our husbands need the confidence to run a strong and prosperous race. The good news is we can help them build confidence which will lead to the joyful, satisfied, and fruitful life we are longing for. If your husband has lost confidence it is ok because we can help rebuild it. The scripture tells us how to build confidence in Acts 4:13, “When the Council saw the boldness  (confidence) of Peter and John and could see they were `ordinary' men, they were amazed and realized what being with Jesus had done for them!” Being with Jesus built their confidence. Your husband’s confidence is built being in the presence of Jesus.

In one of the Bible stories we read that the disciples lost all confidence the day Jesus was crucified on the cross. The disciples had given up everything to follow Jesus for over 3 years… and now he had been killed.  They were left fearful about their future. What would they do? They felt defeated and exhausted because they had failed and betrayed Jesus. They had lost all confidence.

The best part of this story is Jesus was raised from the dead three days after his death and he would show himself alive to them. When Jesus showed himself alive to the disciples they spent a huge amount of time together. And something miraculous happened to them in the presence of GOD - they became the most confident, faith-filled, and powerful people on the earth.

What would change them from feeling like a failure to becoming the most confident and unstoppable men in the world? The scripture tells us the answer: “they had been with Jesus.”

The world tells us confidence comes from appearance, money, or power. But Jesus says He is the source of your confidence and He gives it to those who spend time in His presence.

Being with Jesus gives you confidence and power. You lose fear when God is with you.  You lose the worthless feelings of failure, insecurity, and rejection. In his presence, you value yourself even in spite of your mistakes, the type of work you do, or what you have materially. In His presence you feel good about yourself, you feel loved and significant despite your shortcomings. You become courageous, assertive, and stand up for yourself. You know you are accepted with great strengths and great weaknesses. You know you are worthy of others respect and friendship. His very presence gives you positive feelings about yourself, supernatural energy, and builds your confidence.

We understand our confidence is built with time with Jesus…being in his presence.

12 Ways to Build His Confidence (continued)

Last week, I encouraged you to do 3 steps in building confidence in your husband or yourself. How did that go? I heard from many of you that you took the time to exercise. That’s so fun. I encourage you to really begin to practice them daily. By the fall you (and your husband) will be living at a new level of confidence, you will live a happier and more fulfilling life.

4. Talk with your husband and read to him Acts 4:13. Make a plan together to rebuild his confidence by being in the presence of Jesus. Ask him where does he feel the presence of Jesus?

For my husband, it is in prayer together early in the morning or late at night. It is also at church with worship, prayer, and the preaching of the word.  So we are making times and places for God’s presence.

Proverbs 14:26 Confidence and strength flood the hearts of the lovers of God who live in awe of him…

This applies to everyone - even yourself! When are you spending time in the presence of Jesus? Where do you feel the presence of Jesus?
