Receive a Promise in 2021
PART TWO

I am like most people and I love making New Year’s resolutions in January. It’s fun and allows us to make a lot of lofty goals without anyone requiring us to accomplish them. For me, it’s more like a New Year’s Wish rather than a New Year’s Resolution.  I wanted to share with you one of the greatest things I started doing in the New Year. I ask God to give me a scripture verse for the New Year.  While praying I ask God what he has for me in 2021. I asked him “What would you like my focus to be for this next year”?  I ask Him for a verse in the Bible that would guide, strengthen, and encourage me in the new year.

Last week in my Friends Group we worshiped, read scriptures, took communion, anointed ourselves with oil, prayed, shared our testimonies and the miracles we experienced in 2020, and then we clapped, rejoiced, and thanked God for all the great things he had done in our lives.  We took the time to look back and give thanks. 1 Chronicles 16:11 says…Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles.  God is faithful and if we look at the past year we will remember all the miraculous things Jesus has done for us.

God has plans for our lives, and they are plans to help us prosper! The Bible says in Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  We were all so happy that night as we shared our miraculous testimonies of the past year. But the night didn’t end there, we prayed and asked God to give each of us a scripture verse/a promise for 2021. 

A NEW YEAR……A NEW PROMISE

 4 Steps to Receive a Verse in the New Year 2021

1. Hab 2:1 …I will keep watch to see what He will say to me.

Pray and ask God to give you a verse for the New Year, that would fuel your dreams.  Find a relaxed spot to pray from and listen for God to speak to you a verse of scripture. It is not just letting your mind go blank –but it is thinking about God’s word. What you are looking for is a quickened word, the Holy Spirit will speak to your heart a scripture and when he does you will feel very inspired and hope-filled by that verse. This is called receiving a Rhema word from God or a quickened word. Or you could say, the Holy Spirit enlightens a scripture verse to your mind and heart.  I find this is the hardest method to hear from God and it could take a long time of waiting. Sometimes I feel this way of hearing from the Holy Spirit is for the women who have been studying the Word of God for many years and knows the Bible well. A girlfriend who knows her Bible is a life-giving mentor who always speaks the truth and this truth brings you happiness, confidence, and peace. Do you have a Bible friend who knows the word? Maybe she will wait with you. 

2. John 16:13 The Spirit of Truth …will lead you…he shall reveal the future to you.

You can receive your 2021 scripture verse by reading huge amounts of the Bible, reading, and listening for God to speak a specific verse to your heart. This method usually takes a lot of reading time, maybe reading 5 to 10 chapters in the Bible. I always ask the Holy Spirit what book of the Bible I should read from and go with the first thought that comes to my mind. If that doesn’t work, I will ask again and keep trying until I discover a book in the Bible that captures me. Sometimes it takes me three or four times but I usually find the perfect book, chapter, and scripture for my situation.  Trust the Holy Spirit to guide you and keep asking him to help you. If you keep reading I promise you the Holy Spirit will give you a verse. This way of hearing from God seems to be for the type A person, who is patient, consistent, faithful, and never gives up. This kind of woman always makes a great friend because she is patient, consistent, and faithful toward you too. And she always has time for you and a cup of coffee in her favorite mug. 

3. Jer 33:3  Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets …things to come.

Many times when I need a verse from the Bible, I actively look up some verses that coincide with what I am believing God for. Right now, I am believing God for a miracle in my family in 2021.  Since I desperately need a miracle from God. I look up the word “miracle” in Biblehub and study every passage until a scripture verse speaks to my heart. Then I know Jesus is speaking to me and my miracle is coming.  This is my favorite way to hear from Jesus, studying, absorbing, writing, and learning. I love spending time researching, it must be the teacher or writer in me. Or maybe it is because I feel like the adventurous discovering truths and gems in the Bible. I wonder if you have found your favorite way to hear Jesus speak to you a verse of scripture? Having a friend who hunts the Bible for treasured scriptures might help you uncover a life-changing God verse. 

4. Isa 43:18 I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

An easy and great way to find a scripture from God is to ask a friend for help. Just make sure this is the godliest person you know! When I received some really bad news months ago, I called the godliest women I knew and asked for help. I asked them to pray with me and give me scripture verses that would carry me through this hard impossible situation. At the end of the night, they had given me many verses that would carry me through the difficult days ahead. Their prayers and scriptures filled me with faith, hope, and vision for a supernatural miraculous victory. Some of the most uplifting women in my life who help me hear from Jesus is my Friends Group at the church. They have been committed to meeting almost weekly. You can join a Friends Group here and start building lifelong friends. 

I want to encourage you to write down your desired miracle for 2021 and then ask God for a scripture verse to confirm it.  Then ask your Friends Group to stand with you in prayer all year and watch the miracles happen. Just like the Bible tells us in Ephesians 6:18 Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get… God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. …Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.  I hope to be…Praying hard and long the whole year of 2021!
