The Reasons I Married a Christian Man

I wanted to marry a Christian, but not just any Christian. I wanted to see how he loved Jesus

The first time we met it was like fireworks! I looked at Carl in the eyes and felt for certain “this is the man I am going to marry.” It wasn’t love at first sight (although I was pretty much in love a month later), but there was something (probably GOD) telling me that I just met my husband.

I’ve been asked “How did you know he was the one?” I felt butterflies, yes. I thought he was sooo handsome, yes. But what really sealed the deal was watching him “in action” at church, doing ministry, worshipping God, talking about his relationship with Jesus, hearing him pray, and seeing him lead. My relationship with Jesus has been a priority since I was young girl. SO marrying a christian was a top priority! I always wanted to be with likeminded man who understood me and had a similar faith.

Let me go a little further and explain... marrying a Christian was not just number 1 on my list. It was like #1-#7. You, see I didn’t want to marry a guy that just believed in God (that was like bare minimum). I needed a man that was going to live a life devoted to Jesus. I was ALL in with my faith and I really valued finding a partner that was going to be just as dedicated, if not more so.

Here are a couple things on my “Must be a Christian” list:

  1. Believes in Jesus & the Holy Spirit

  2. Wants kids & will raise them according to the Bible

  3. Keeping Sundays as our family day for church

  4. Called to be in Ministry

  5. Reads the Bible & prays daily because he wants to

  6. Makes decisions based off the Word of God

  7. Generous and willing to give 10% of our finances every month to church

It was important to be with a man who would be my partner and my leader. I wanted him to have the same moral values and spiritual compatibility because marriage is hard!! I knew that when I met Carl he would be turning to scriptures to help lead us through difficult seasons.

When I would dream about my husband I saw us going to church together, taking walks to pray about our future, teaching our kids about Jesus. That wouldn’t happen if I didn’t make marrying a Christian a non-negotiable. Going to church is not just something I do on Sundays. Being a Christian is my 24/7 lifestyle and ALL my decisions in life come back to the word of God.

The bible encourages us all to spend our lives intimately with another that has common core beliefs.

Amos 3:3 How can two people come together unless they agree?

Psalm 133:1 How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!

1 Corinthian 1:10 Brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.

Marrying a deeply faithful and devoted Christian man has brought peace to my life. We have the same beliefs to the core and the foundation of our marriage has been built on the bible. I know that the unity in our faith has brought a blessing on our home and marriage.

Have you experienced this type of blessing in your marriage? To the single readers: Do you value spending time with like-minded friends? So much peace comes to your home when you agree to live life in the same devotion to Christ.

Tell us below the type of Christian you are looking for! Or if you already found him, share how the blessing of God has been with your marriage.
