Let the Healing Begin

Although I accepted Jesus as my Savior when I was six, my journey to understand the Gifts of the Spirit only really began once I came to The City Church. I never really understood the life change that can happen through using these gifts, and am so grateful to be learning! The Bible even says, “Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.” 1 Cor 12:1.

My faith has helped me through infidelity, divorce, children being hospitalized, being laid off, and losing my house. Before I understood the power of words, I use to say that since trials couldn’t stop me, the only way the enemy could stop me was to make me sick. Gosh, I don’t even want to write that down because my mindset has shifted so much. Now I speak healing into my own life, and have come to treasure friends who will pray scriptures of healing over me.

“Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.” Jer 33:6

“Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. Then you will call and the Lord will answer. You will cry for help and he will say, “Here I am” Isaiah 58:8-9

Sometimes, answers to healing come in big, miraculous ways. One of my friends from my small group asked us to pray when she had her 20 week ultrasound and found out her daughter had some major complications with her brain development. She came to Worship and Warfare where there was a specific time of healing. Several of us laid hands on her and prayed in the spirit over her. Her next ultrasound revealed that everything was perfectly normal and a healthy, 6lb 10oz bundle of joy was delivered at the end of June!

Here are some practical ways we can operate in this gifting:

  1. Speak in Faith - literally. Vocalize out loud scriptures claiming that God has freed us from sickness. Here are some of my favorites:

    • Prov 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of your tongue.”

    • Mark 5:34 “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

  2. Get in Community - come to Worship and Warfare (1st Thursdays of the month at 7pm) and get in a small group. There is POWER when people pray together in the Spirit. Worship opens up the heavens for miracles to pour down.

    • James 5:14 “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well.”

Do you have a testimony about a time The Holy Spirit worked through you with the Gifts of Healing? Or a time your life was personally touched by healing? I would love to hear your story!

Love you,Sarah Cockrell
