God Is A Good Dad, Ask Him For Big Things
Hey Ladiesssss! My name is Maddy and I’m a leader in our women’s ministry FAME. I’ve been loving reading about women in the OT. I highly recommend going back and reading through each devotional because they are so good and really have shaped my summer and how I respond to situations in my life. Thank you Pastor Tami for the genius idea!
The great woman I am sharing about is Achsah. Achsah is the daughter of Caleb, a man of great faith, and the wife of Othniel, a mighty warrior.
Her story is in Judges 1:12-15:
12 And Caleb said, “I will give my daughter Achsah in marriage to the man who attacks and captures Kiriath Sepher.” 13 Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, took it; so Caleb gave his daughter Achsah to him in marriage.
14 One day when she came to Othniel, she urged him to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, “What can I do for you?”
15 She replied, “Do me a special favor. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me also springs of water.” So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.
The same confident faith Achsah had to ask her father Caleb for the springs of water, is the same confident faith we can have with God, our Heavenly Father. We can ask Him for big things. Nothing is too big for Him. He’s just waiting for us to ask.
One of of my favorite verses is out of Ephesians 3 that says:
20 Never doubt God’s mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! He will outdo them all, for his miraculous power constantly energizes you.
Ephesians 3:20 was the verse I felt God was speaking to me for 2021. I always loved the verse because it showcases that God just wants to exceed our expectations and our dreams.
When I was writing down my New Year's resolutions at the beginning of this year, I wrote down that I wanted to release one song of my own in 2021. It has been a dream in my heart since I was a little girl. God had plans to exceed my expectations, and I recorded a 5 song EP in Nashville with world class musicians.
This exemplified that He is waiting to exceed our expectations and we CAN ask Him for big things. He is such a good father.
I want to live like Achsah with the same confident faith she had to ask her father, and remember that God is our good father who is just waiting for us to ask for those dreams.
Let's live like Achsah.
One practical way we can do this: Be confident and ask big from God!
15 She replied, “Do me a special favor. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me also springs of water.” So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.
I am so thankful for FAME and the community of women we have that are bold and ask for things with confident FAITH. Thank you Pastor Tami for setting the example so well!
What is something big you are asking God for? I would love to hear!
Love you,
Maddy
