I Have A Good Heart

Hi Fame Ladies!

My name is Flora, and I am one of the Care Pastors in our women's ministry, Fame. 

We are learning from the women in the Old Testament. The woman I am sharing with you is Rebekah. Rebekah was the wife of Isaac and mother of Jacob and Esau. Her father-in-law was Abraham.

Abraham was chosen by God to become “the father of a multitude of nations” Genesis 17:5. When it was time for Isaac to get married, Abraham knew that his son couldn’t just marry anyone. He sent his servant with special instructions to find a specific wife for Isaac. She was to be a relative from his homeland and not a Canaanite woman. She also had to agree to travel back with the servant immediately to marry Isaac. 

Abraham’s servant prayed that God would give him success in finding a wife for Isaac. He prayed “This is my request. I will ask one of them, ‘Please give me a drink from your jug.’ If she says, ‘Yes, have a drink, and I will water your camels, too!’—let her be the one you have selected as Isaac’s wife” Genesis 24:14 (NLT). 

Before the servant had finished praying, Rebekah came and drew water for the servant and the camels. It was an answer to prayer! This selfless act led Rebekah into marriage with Isaac. 

Rebekah’s servant-heart brought her to her husband. She became the mother of Jacob and Esau. She was a wife and mother that played a vital role in the lineage of Jesus.

Wow! What a powerful and beautiful call on her life. 

One thing I learned from Rebekah is that her good heart and care for others opened doors for her life and she was showered with favor from God.

I remember when I first became a Christian. All I wanted to do was be at the church, serve God and do good for others because of His love for me. And like Rebekah, all I wanted was a Godly family of my own. 

I remember when God spoke to me from this exact story before I was married. God told me repeatedly that my husband was like “Isaac.” He told me to just keep serving Him and loving Him and I would get my “Isaac” in time. I am in awe of God’s favor in my life and the wonderful man I got to marry! He is the most kind, integrous and loyal man I know. I came from a broken home and did not have my father in my life.  God redeemed my story by giving me Scott, my husband, who loves our daughters and leads our family faithfully.

I believe God can fulfill the desires of our hearts and show us His favor like He did for Rebekah because we are Godly women with good hearts. 

Some traits of a woman with a good heart:

1. A Woman with a Good Heart Looks for Opportunity to do Good for Others

Rebekah went out of her way to do a good thing. She was not asked to draw water for the camels. It was an outpouring of her kindness and consideration for others.  This act of service completely changed the course of her life. The bible shows us that choosing to serve people with love fills our life with God’s favor. He is waiting to pour favor on us! Acts of service open unexpected doors for us in our jobs, finances, school, relationships, and friendships. 

2. A Woman with a Good Heart says Yes to God.

I am sure it was not easy for Rebekah to leave her home to go to Isaac. Yet, Rebekah trusted God and said YES. Sometimes God asks us to step out of our comfort zone, trust Him and say yes. But God is faithful. I believe God rewards our yes, the way He did with Rebekah. 

3. A Woman with a Good Heart Helps her Husband Succeed. 

Rebekah supported and loved her husband. This can be easily overlooked in our generation but is one of the most important factors that brings God’s favor to your home. 

Good-hearted women can be a strong support to their husband’s success. I want to be a part of the reason my husband succeeds as a Godly man and leader in our home. 

I know that even when I miss the mark in other areas of my life, by helping and honoring my husband, God will reward my family.

I am so thankful to Pastor Tami for the honor of writing this blog. She is a woman like Rebekah, with a good heart, love for others and honors her husband. I am thankful for the example she has been to me. The women in this Fame community are some of the kindest, most-loving and Godly women I know. Together we can live with a good heart together and find success and favor from God.
